Star Trek Technology Talk Empty Star Trek Technology Talk

Post by Genix Mon May 09, 2011 2:36 pm

This is a Everlasting (None-Necromantic/Lockable)

This can be about anything from a Hydro-Spanner to a Multi-Warp Inverter. Also try to ask as many questions as you can and Me or someone else shall try to answer the Question. You can also post Design-Schematics of weapons and ships here.

Try to answer as accurately as possible, if it is a Cannon answer then a T.V Answer will be given. (The more detailed original Answer)

For Example:

Weapons:

Phase Pistol:

Unlike its predecessor, the EM-33, the phase pistol was equipped with an adjustable setting, allowing the user to choose from either "stun" or, in extreme cases, "kill." While these settings were most commonly used and more readily available, the weapon was capable of an even wider range of output and could be adjusted to a ten megajoule setting (albeit with some internal modification). (ENT: "Regeneration") Also unlike the EM-33, which required the user to compensate for particle drift, the phase pistol was a simple point-and-shoot weapon, making hitting a desired target faster and easier. (ENT: "Sleeping Dogs")

A phase pistol set to overload
The effects of a phase pistol hit also differed from those experienced with other weapons of that era. 22nd century Suliban and Coridan weapons inflicted identifiable wounds, tearing through clothing and into the victim's flesh. (ENT: "Shadows of P'Jem") The phase pistol, however, produced an injury more comparable to an electric shock, capable of causing severe injury without breaking the skin. (ENT: "Broken Bow")
In addition to use as a weapon, the phase pistol was also utilized as a cutting tool, capable of slicing through solid rock, a tree trunk, or producing a heat ray. (ENT: "Terra Nova", "Civilization")

Phase pistols could also be used as explosives when set to overload; the subsequent explosion causing severe damage in a larger area. (ENT: "United")

Crewmembers from the Enterprise NX-01 first used phase pistols in April of 2151, when Captain Jonathan Archer infiltrated a Suliban helix. Aboard the helix, Archer was able to stun a Suliban soldier before having his own phase pistol turned against him by the Suliban henchman Silik. Due to the bizarre temporal effects within the helix's temporal communications chamber, however, Archer was able to literally dodge the particle beam and escaped relatively unharmed. (ENT: "Broken Bow")

Major Hayes with a MACO phase pistol.
MACOs used their own form of phase pistols as their primary sidearm as well. Although different in design, the weapons had measurably the same effect as their Starfleet counterparts, being equipped with both "stun" and "kill" settings. In 2154, Talas was shot with a MACO phase pistol set to kill. Although she was only grazed, being an Andorian she was especially susceptible to phase pulse infections, and subsequently died of her injuries. (ENT: "Babel One")
Ensign Masaro committed suicide with a phase pistol in 2155. (ENT: "Terra Prime")

Phase pistols were used as late as 2161, when an away team from Enterprise fought against a group of aliens on the planet Rigel X. (ENT: "These Are the Voyages...")

Phaser Rifle:

The phase rifle was a standard-issue phase-modulated energy weapon in use by Starfleet and Earth's MACO forces in the mid-22nd century.
In 2151, a Starfleet security officer carried a phase rifle into Cargo Bay 2 while investigating the presence of a strange alien lifeform with Captain Archer and Commander Tucker aboard the Enterprise NX-01. The security officer attempted to use his phase rifle, which was set on stun, to fend off the creature when it began to attack them, but was distressed to find out that the weapon had no measurable effect on the creature. (ENT: "Vox Sola")

In 2153, two security officers accompanying Lieutenant Reed attempted to use phase rifles to fend off two Tarkaleans who had been assimilated by the Borg, but were unable to penetrated the Tarkaleans' personal force fields. (ENT: "Regeneration")

The MACO's phase rifle fired blue pulses of concentrated energy at its target and was capable of multiple settings. The observed power settings range from stun, to kill, to a high-power kill setting capable of blasting a perfectly symmetrical hole over an inch in diameter through a Human torso. (ENT: "The Augments") Power levels could be changed by manipulating either of a pair of circular dials mounted on either side of the weapon. Rotating the power level selector forward / away from the user appears to increase the power level. (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly")

The weapon featured a tubular stock, vertical foregrip, and a multifunction scope that could be retracted into the body of the weapon. There may also be a sniper variant, though it is unclear whether or not the sniper / designated marksman version is a distinct weapon system or a standard MACO phase-rifle with a retractable barrel or separate barrel attachment. (ENT: "The Xindi")

A short, tubular-shaped part of the rifle beneath the muzzle of the weapon that is very similar to a set of three objects the MACO's carry in a specialized pouch / carrier on their utility belts, suggesting the ability for the weapon to be reloaded. The MACO variant of the EM-33 energy pistol features an identical object, also beneath the muzzle of the weapon, which may also be storage space for spare power cells for the rifle and pistol.
While extremely powerful when set to kill, its stun setting appeared to be somewhat ineffective against species that were more physically resilient, such as enraged Vulcans, Xindi-Reptilians and the Augments. (ENT: "Impulse", "Rajiin", "Borderland")
At their highest setting, MACO phase rifles were extremely powerful, capable of penetrating a humanoid target. In 2154, Captain Archer used a MACO phase rifle to kill the Augment Malik in this manner, using the rifle to literally bore a hole through Malik's torso. (ENT: "The Augments")

Phase rifles were in use as late as 2161, when a team of MACOs utilized the weapons during a mission to rescue Talla, the daughter of Shran and Jhamel, from a group of alien kidnappers on Rigel X. (ENT: "These Are the Voyages...")

These are both only examples of what a Acceptable answer should be, but this depends on the question. These two weapons are both from the Enterprise's Era.
